I was not a healthy human.    \nThis was way before my sunrise pictures on Instagram and Facebook; long before writing Yoga for Depression and discovering how simple movement\, combined with breathing practices and sound could transform my life. \nBack then I was so filled with shame\, remorse and regret that I drank to numb the pain. In fact\, when I went to the dermatologist for an eczema treatment\, the doc called\nhis entire staff in to see my chest where the rash had exploded from my arms and hands. \nI was put on antidepressants\, and I needed them! \nIf it weren’t for therapy and my discovery of yoga\, which allowed me to forgive myself and release a lifetime of shame\, I know for a fact I wouldn’t be where I am today. \nWe all share heartbreak\, and that’s why I am delighted to introduce you to my passionate friend Anastasia Frank. \nThis series is thoughtfully curated to give you everything you need to\n~ feel what you’re feeling ~\n~ identify and heal your blindspots ~\n~ start taking concrete\, embodied steps ~\nto create the aligned\, lasting love you absolutely deserve. \nI hope you will join us to heal what hurts at its root\,\nso you can feel authentic joy and create connected love that lasts.  \nSIGN UP NOW \n  \nAmy Weintraub\, MFA\, ERYT-500\, C-IAYT\, YACEP\n\nAmy Weintraub\, MFA\, E-RYT 500\, YACEP\, C-IAYT\, is the founder of LifeForce Yoga® and a pioneer in the field of yoga and mental health. DESCRIPTION:Embodied Movements of Compassion: Harnessing anger\, outrage\, fear\, disgust and turning toward compassion\, hosted by Deirdre Fay.\n\nMAR 6-10 LIVE virtual (free) series!\nOn Zoom each day at 1pm ET for about an hour.\n\nLike so many of us\, Deirdre felt the impulse to “do something” with the feelings arising in response to Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine. She quickly set up this (free) global “UnChallenge”: Embodied Movements of Compassion. The 5-day practice is designed to acknowledge the threat that comes when a person is feeling bullied\, taken advantage of\, or enraged\, utilizing that energy and turning instead toward compassion. Come shift those “red zone” feelings into compassionate action. \nWe’ll do this by exploring and embodying compassionate qualities:\n·      Harnessing the inner protest – the anger\, outrage\, fear\, disgust as a normal body response which can motivate us to compassion\n·      Embodying Strength through Self-Compassion\n·      Exploring body based ways to move from “Control & Hold” to “Care & Share”\n·      Russell Kolts‘ song tribute to the Ukrainian people helps us hold intensity in our bodies\n·      Karuna from MindOasis will join us and highlight how the world is rising up with passionate courage\, gathering in a global wave of compassion for the underdog being bullied\n·      Generating compassionate community \n\n\nI will offer a practice that moves us from outrage to personal courage and into compassion. \nPlease join us! We will all benefit from the shared wisdom on compassion\, recorded or live. It’s a free series\, with options for people to donate to Ukrainian Red Cross or the compassion charity of their choice. SUMMARY:LIVE Webinar: Yoga for Depression as Alzheimer's Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Online Registration\n\n\nTuesday\, September 28\, 2021\n4pm PT/5pm MT/6pm CT/7pm ET \nResearch shows a strong relationship between depression and Alzheimer’s disease. In fact\, a history of major depression is a risk factor for later development of Alzheimer’s disease. And those with dementia often develop symptoms of both depression and anxiety. Luckily\, yoga has been proven to be an effective lifestyle modality to manage depressive symptoms. I am grateful to be a part of this\, as I’m passionate about supporting treatments for #AlzheimersDisease. \nThe loss of my mother’s memory and the changes in her personality were painful for us all. In the middle stage\, she was more loving than she had ever been. As her disease progressed and she no longer recognized me and my daughter\, her beloved granddaughter; she was angered by our presence.\nI believe that yoga\, particularly mantra and mudra\, can help keep our neurons firing and our synapses connecting.\n\nPlease join me to talk about the LifeForce Yoga practices I do to protect my brain \nI will talk about ways in which yoga can protect our brains and shift our moods. We will practice a number of brief and accessible yoga mood-shifters from my new card deck\, Yoga for Your Mood\, just released from Sounds True. No mat or previous experience required! \n\nIn this webinar\, you will discover: \n– A yoga breathing exercise that activates ventral vagal activity\, regulates the autonomic nervous system\, and leaves the practitioner feeling calm and alert. \n– A short evidence-based yoga meditation that includes a hand gesture\, visual imagery\, and a mantra tone that builds confidence\, clarity and self-efficacy. \n– The evidence-based biochemical changes in the brain as a result of yoga and meditation so as to explain to patients/clients. \n– Principles of Yoga that pertain to emotional balance and mood regulation. \nAmy is the founder of the LifeForce Yoga® Healing Institute\, an acclaimed yoga therapist\, and a pioneer in the field of yoga and mental health. Author of the best-selling “Yoga for Depression\,” the new card deck from Sounds True\, “Yoga for Your Mood: 52 Ways to Shift Depression and Anxiety\,” and “Yoga Skills for Therapists\,” she teaches and guides thousands of practitioners and therapists around the world. Her Silver Nautilus Award-winning novel “Temple Dancer” was released in 2020. She thrives in Tucson\, Arizona where she mountain bikes\, dances\, writes\, and creates. In 1999\, Amy wrote “The Natural Prozac\,” Yoga Journal’s first article addressing yoga and mental health. \nThe link for Zoom video access will be sent out in the confirmation email after registration is completed. This webinar will also be recorded and sent to you a few days later. \nImportant: Please add admin@arpf.com to your contact list so no communication gets lost in spam. \nThis webinar is part of ARPF’s fundraising initiative. Your registration fee ensures we can continue our outreach and educational programs. SUMMARY:Yoga Therapy for ALL podcast
DESCRIPTION:As yoga therapists\, we are often called upon to offer therapeutic yoga for mood disorders in health care\, or residential settings like detention centers\, disordered eating clinics\, and halfway houses\, where yoga may be prescribed but not chosen by those we serve. In these environments yoga may seem inaccessible or weird or just plain boring. We know that yoga is effective for mood regulation. In this scientific review of yoga and depression\, The Efficacy of Yoga as a Form of Treatment for Depression\, the abstract states:  “…it can be concluded that the yoga interventions were effective in reducing depression.” Still\, for some\, yoga sounds too difficult\, or even elitist. How do we make yoga accessible and acceptable and fun? \nThursday\, August 19\, Amy Wheeler\, PhD\, and I take on discussions about yoga therapy and making it enjoyable for those who haven’t chosen yoga\, but have been prescribed it for mental health support. It’s not always pretzel-poses that provide real relief\, and anyone can take part\, no matter who or where you are. We’ll discuss my new card deck\, just released from Sounds True\, “Yoga for Your Mood: 52 Ways to Shift Depression and Anxiety“\, and the importance of meeting the mood. ✨We’ll talk about how to make yoga inclusive\, how to give clients a stronger sense of agency in their lives\, and much more! ???? Join us next Thursday HERE\, or wherever you stream your podcasts! \nThe new podcast\, “Yoga Therapy Hour with Amy Wheeler” is a joint production with Give Back Yoga Foundation. Our goal is to educate and promote the field of yoga therapy and nourish our listeners at the same time. We hope that yoga teachers\, yoga therapists\, physicians\, psychologists\, health educators and people interested in the mind-body connection will enjoy the content. We share topics on specific health ailments\, talk about how yoga therapy can complement allopathic care or stand-alone\, discuss research and education\, and more. We look at social justice in the field of yoga therapy and the emerging trends in healthcare and beyond. We have a guest list from all over the world so that we can work together to bring yoga therapy to the world and reduce suffering. \nGive Back Yoga University is our partner in creating social change and they help us to produce and promote this podcast. They are a charitable organization that helps bring yoga to those in need.
