Joanne Spence, RYT 500, C-IAYT

Joanne published her book, Trauma-Informed Yoga: A Toolbox for Therapists in 2021. The gentle and subtle aspects of yoga has helped calm her overly busy mind, soothe her nervous system, and heal her body after a debilitating car accident 20 years ago. She is a certified yoga therapist with specialized training from Amy Weintraub (LifeForce Yoga), Susi Hately (Functional Synergy), Kristine Weber (Subtle Yoga) and Jill Miller (Yoga Tune-Up).  Joanne is a Life Force Practitioner II and serves as a mentor for the LifeForce Yoga Institute. This style of yoga focuses on managing depression and anxiety with mindful movement, breathing and sound.  Joanne has combined these credentials with her clinical social work background and worked as the first yoga instructor at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, one of the largest inpatient psychiatric hospitals in the US.  Joanne is also member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and the Yoga Service Council.

Amy Weintraub, MFA, E-RYT 500, YACEP, C-IAYT, is the founder of LifeForce Yoga® and a pioneer in the field of yoga and mental health. She is the author of Yoga for Depression (Broadway Books) and Yoga Skills for Therapists (W.W. Norton) and numerous magazine articles and book chapters. She often collaborates with therapists to offer yoga-integrated programs to assist mental health professionals. She has been a consultant for research on the impact of Yoga on mood, and the evidence-based Yoga protocols for depression and anxiety she developed are used in therapeutic settings internationally and are featured on award-winning audio-visual products for mood management.
