As I drove back and forth across the country in sometimes searing and unexpected heat this summer, the physical beauty of our country often brought moments of tearful prayers—gratitude was often in my heart’s mind. I’m back in Tucson now, and I fall asleep replaying precious memories with family, with friends and with my colleagues and students at Kripalu. Love guides me, breathes through me, and that is what I see reflected back in the eyes of those I meet. Most of the time. But not always. If we embrace truth without attaching ourselves to an "ism" and release those "isms" back to their doctrines, the path forward becomes pathless. There is only the journey. When I become overly focused on the destination, I limit possibility. I narrow what life might reveal. As I watch the young, talented classical musicians at the Newport Classical Music Festival play little-known, even to them, quartets and sonatas, I know they have set goals for themselves—they’ve won international competitions, played as soloists with major orchestras. Caring for Self What is your responsibility to your Self? Consider nourishing yourself by cultivating an organizing part who offers you time every morning to sit in silence and watch the birds at the feeder or reminds you to close your eyes and breathe consciously. Consider giving your manager part a bonus if they hang the "do not disturb" sign while you are working at your craft or your art and stand guard against even the most well-meaning intrusion.
