If we embrace truth without attaching ourselves to an “ism” and release those “isms” back to their doctrines, the path forward becomes pathless. There is only the journey. When I become overly focused on the destination, I limit possibility. I narrow what life might reveal.

As I watch the young, talented classical musicians at the Newport Classical Music Festival play little-known, even to them, quartets and sonatas, I know they have set goals for themselves—they’ve won international competitions, played as soloists with major orchestras. You cannot reach that level of artistry without aspirational goals and good teachers.

Yet what moves me most is what happens while they’re making music together. They listen deeply. They communicate through a glance, a smile, a subtle nod. They respond. In those moments, they are fully immersed in the shared experience of creating something beautiful together. The destination fades, and the journey becomes everything.

Next month, Laura Schmidt, LMFT, and I will welcome all parts with compassion at our LifeForce Yoga and Internal Family Systems retreat, August 9–15 at Kripalu. We know that when we tamp down those feeling parts, they become limitations. When we deny those negative beliefs about ourselves and others, pretending we feel differently, we perpetuate the “isms” and may miss the infinite possibilities before us.

Join us for this journey.

Learn more about your own parts and how you can nurture them, recognizing that even if misguided, they want the best for you. When we bring Internal Family Systems (IFS) and LifeForce Yoga together, we remember our own true nature. We remember we are one with the ineffable loving presence for which there are a multitude of names—a presence that both IFS and Yoga call Self.

If you’d like to deepen your understanding of Self, parts, and the healing potential of this work, I invite you to join us. The details are below.

I hope to see you.
